ABOUT US
Pneumonia started life a little over a year ago after it's creators (Jet payne and Jessica Warde) were inspired by Dada publications such as 291 and The Blind Man. The first three issues were compiled in and around the University of East Anglia in Norwich. We started Pneumonia as a response to the marginalisation of art on campus but also as a creative outlet for the manifestationalists, an art group whom quickly became overshadowed by the publication it self. At this point in time we're just about to release our fourth issue from our new location in London
We're frustrated by the range of boring art zines's and publications which are expensive and either all glossy with no content or composed entirely from unreadable scratchy drawings. We try not to get too bogged down by academic writing, giving writers and artists a chance to tell people what they believe in without needing a degree in journalism to write for us. We always have a call for submissions open to absolutely everyone, it is this which gives us such a unique and eclectic selection of artwork and articles. We're a completely self published, not-for-profit publication. We produce Pneumonia with next to no budget and completely inadequate resources, but I'm sure this is what makes Pneumonia so good (even if I do say so myself !).
We feel Pneumonia is unique because it rejects the trendy life style accessory ethos of other arts publications. We focus on genuine content over trend led design. This has earned us popularity and trust as a platform for upcoming artists who really care about what's happening in art today.
I'm pleased to announce that Jess and myself were recently joined by Geoffrey Glees who now contributes to our growing editorial team. We're always interested in hearing from people who want to get involved, please see our contact details if you would like to find out more.
